Consider east as (x-axis)'i' unit vector, west as (-x-axis) '-i' unit vector, north as (y-axis) 'j', south as (-y-axis) '-j', up/out of plane as (z-axis) 'k' and down/into the plane as (-z-axis) '-k' unit vector. And then treat them as vectors.
