Rules for assigning oxidation state :1)free element always zero 2) for neutral compound , sum of ox number is zero 3)in ions, it's charges 4) in ionic compounds ,sum equal to charge on compound

Remember one thing that more positive value shows reduction. It means this reaction occurs at cathode and element act as oxidizing agent. And as we go down the electrochemical series E becomes more positive vise versa with more negative values
