This could be explained in a way as we know that pressure and volume have inverse relation so if P is doubled then V must be halved to keep the work constant (or to keep ∆W = zero) but in the scenerio given in the statement only pressure is allowed to be doubled while not allowed the volume to be changed (∆V=0) so if V does not change then doubling the pressure will simply double the work
